It’s a VERY exciting time to be a fan of the synthesizer

What an exciting time to be a synth guy!

So far this year we’ve seen new releases from major players like New Order, Depeche Mode, Orchestral Manoeuvers in the Dark, Simple Minds, and Kraftwerk alum, Karl Bartos. Additional new releases are due from the Pet Shop Boys and some rather strong, although yet-to-be-confirmed rumors of a new Tears For Fears release before the end of the year.

Furthermore, as if having new music from these amazing artists wasn’t cool enough, all of the afore-mentioned acts are also currently on tour and very likely coming to a city near you!

It’s like 1985 all over again….. and I couldn’t be happier.  🙂

There are also exciting new releases on the way from some of my favourite indie synth artists such as: Jonteknik, Some Desperate Glory, and Pacific Deep, as well some new releases on the horizon from Eminent Sol.

From NAMM and Musikmesse comes news of the DSI Prophet-12 and Korg’s MS-20 Mini, along with a plethora of other new toys to tickle the fancy of any keyboard nut.

On the software front, there’s happy news from Propellerhead with the announcement of Reason 7, which hits the street on April 30th and will (finally) count audio quantizing, MIDI Out, a much-needed upgrade to the Reason FSB, and an integrated spectrum analyzer among its many new features. Steinberg also recently announced Cubase 8, which is set for a mid-May launch date and features all sorts of improvements as well. Rumours continue to abound regarding Logic Pro X, but I’ve been unable to get any solid confirmation from anybody at Apple. But all indications seem to point towards something of the sort in the not-too-distant future. My guess is the upgrade will feature better VSTs and improved plug-ins, but not much else. Logic Pro 9 is already rock-solid as it is. Finally, Ableton 9 has finally landed, and has some really cool stuff as well. Hopefully it’s a bit more stable than Live 8 was. With all these new DAW upgrade releases, that means Pro Tools 11 is likely just around the corner. Don’t say I didn’t warn ya!

Like I said, it’s a VERY exciting time to be a synth guy!

Cheers, & God Bless!
